"Every day we spend without learning something is a day lost" - Beethoven

General Rules & Regulations

  1. Competitors may enter any class in which they are eligible. HOWEVER, THE BOARD PREFERS THAT STUDENTS ENTER AT OR ABOVE  THEIR CURRENT LEVEL OF STUDY. The same entry form will be used for all classes entered. In classes with an age limit, ages are based as of January 1, 2024.
  2. Unless otherwise stated, selections MUST be memorized. If music is referred to during the performance, adjudication will be given but NO MARK will be awarded.
  3. Repeats are to be omitted unless otherwise specified, with the exception of a “Da Capo” ending.
  4. For any OWN CHOICE class, the competitor must provide an ORIGINAL COPY of the selection for the Adjudicator’s use. This selection must be delivered to the Secretary prior to the beginning of the class and recovered immediately afterward.
  5. Music from the Internet, with proof of purchase, may be used. The Programming Secretary MUST approve these selections no later than April 15th. Non-compliance will result in disqualification. Selections for Individual Verse Speaking and Choral Speaking WILL NOT be accepted from the Internet.

  10. All candidates must be prepared to announce the piece of music that they intend to perform in a clear and audible voice. The student must also name the composer of the work to be performed.
  11. Proper etiquette of bowing after a performance is essential. The candidate needs to practice the art of bowing in order to maintain proper composure and balance and in order to be able to be comfortable with this procedure. It helps to focus the mind, relax the breathing, and is the proper way to thank the audience for listening.
